Current work

Two engagements are active. Both are described by the kind of work involved, not by client name, until each client agrees to be named.

A Canadian provincial registries modernisation program

Senior Data Strategist · June 2024 to November 2026

A province is moving its land titles, motor vehicle, corporate and personal property, and vital statistics registries off IBM mainframes and onto a cloud data platform. As sole author, the principal wrote the ten-year data modernisation strategy for all of the province's registries. It sets roadmaps for data migration, data quality, interoperability, privacy and security, analytics and reporting, and data-driven innovation, with a framework for governing AI. The principal also designed the data governance program and the Data Centre of Excellence that run the data side of the move.

Current questions include how to build one reliable record of each person across nine registries, how to keep every land title's legal standing intact through the migration, and how to let AI tools help without giving them access to secured personal information.

An Indigenous-led sovereign AI compute venture

Technology and Innovation Advisor to the Board · February 2026 to present

A pre-operational sovereign AI data centre and energy program with Indigenous majority ownership. The principal advises its board on technology, security certification and governance, and has produced more than 40 documents for it, from the enterprise risk framework to a certification roadmap mapping more than 25 federal security standards.

Current questions include how to certify the facility for government workloads in phases, and how to keep Indigenous-majority control as the program's structure changes.

Earlier engagements are on the Record page. The practice takes on new work when an engagement fits and there is capacity; the Engage page explains how to start.
