Deane Stillar, Principal

Deane Stillar founded DSarchitek Inc. in 2019 and leads its engagements, working alongside the practice's senior consultants.

Background

The work began in human factors and service design: how people experience the systems built for them. That focus moved into information architecture, then enterprise architecture and enterprise data, across energy, banking, health and government.

At Alberta Health Services, first as Enterprise Architect and then as Director, Enterprise Information Management, the principal built the organisation's Enterprise Information Management Program and its data and information governance framework, directing more than 450 subject-matter experts. At Export Development Canada, as Principal Data Services Architect, the principal delivered master data management within its $2.1 million budget and 18-month schedule. At Painted Molecule, as VP, Platform Architecture and Technology Innovation, the principal built the engineering team and delivered a real-time analysis platform two months early.

Since 2019, through DSarchitek Inc., the work has centred on government registries, citizen identifiers, AI deployment policy and sovereign infrastructure. The full list of roles and what each produced is on the Record page.

Creative practice

The principal also runs a creative practice in pavilion-scale immersive architecture under the name Deane Stillar, at deanstillar.com. Both practices work on the same problem in different materials: how to design something that keeps its meaning over a long span of time. Clients of DSarchitek do not need to engage with the creative work.
